Link Internship

In order to graudate from Animas High School it's required that all students complete a LINK Internship. We are given three weeks in May our Junior year to complete 90 hours of an internship of our choice. The goal is to work alongside our mentors in a job we are interested in while learning the ropes of a real workplace. To learn more go to ahsinternships.weebly.com.
My Internship
My internship was at Rivendell Early Education Center, a daycare for infants up to 3 1/2 year olds. I choose this because I love working with kids and want to be a teacher so I wanted to see what age group worked best for me.

My mentor and I sat down and discussed how many hours I completed and agreed that I most likely had 60 hours done. While we were talking about this I expressed the idea of working there and she said she had been thinking of asking that as well. I completed an interview and am now working at Rivendell as a teacher part-time!

Currently, I'm really excited about the opportunity to test out potential future jobs. My head has been through hundreds of ideas already that I have always wanted to try out. Right now I am thinking about working with a school counselor at a variety of different elementary schools. I really love working with kids, and my biggest passion is developmental psychology.

Reflection
April 23rd, 2021
I really enjoyed my internship, the work community was very nice to work around, and didn't get annoyed with my thousands of questions. If I become a teacher, I will want to focus on a higher age group, preferably one that doesn't have nap time. Working with babies and toddlers is fun but I actually want to have them sit down and learn as a class rather than teaching each kid individual things when I can. However, my mentor liked me so much that I now have a full-time teaching position in the toddler room.
My Project
For my project I helped refine the business Facebook page by showing my mentor how to pin posts that have important information for parents.
